Una delegación de la WKF visitó la sede del COI en Lausana el 28 de julio para reunirse a su Presidente el Sr. Thomas Bach, quien estuvo acompañado por el Director Deportivo del COI Sr. Kit McConnell. La delegación de la WKF fue compuesta por el Presidente de la WKF Sr. Antonio Espinós, acompañado por el Sr. Takashi Sasagawa, Presidente de la Federación de Karate de Japón (JKF), el Sr. Toshihisa Nagura, miembro del Comité Ejecutivo de la WKF, y el Sr. Wolfgang Weigert, Presidente de la Federación Alemana de Karate. La reunión fue bastante cordial, y el Sr. Sasagawa tenido la oportunidad de explicar al presidente del COI, la intensa actividad que la JKF está desarrollando en Japón con Tokio 2020 y el Comité Olímpico de Japón; También el Sr. Weigert explicó al señor Bach las grandes expectativas de que la WKF y todo el mundo del Karate tienen en los próximos Campeonatos del Mundo de Bremen (Alemania) el próximo noviembre, que son cada 2 años, el principal evento para los 188 miembros de la Federación Nacional que la WKF tiene en los 5 Continentes.

En esta ocasión, el Sr. Espinós también aprovechó la oportunidad para agradecer al Sr. Bach para el reconocimiento y el apoyo continuo de la COI para el trabajo que la WKF realiza para el desarrollo de karate en todo el mundo. Más allá de esto, expresó al presidente del COI, el renovado entusiasmo y la determinación de toda la familia de la WKF, que siguen comprometidos con su objetivo de colocar karate entre los deportes en el programa olímpico en un futuro próximo.

A WKF delegation visited the IOC headquarters in Lausanne on the 28th of July to meet its President Mr. Thomas Bach, who was accompanied by the IOC Sports Director Mr. Kit McConnell. The WKF delegation was composed by the WKF President Mr. Antonio Espinós, accompanied by Mr. Takashi Sasagawa, President of the Japan Karate Federation (JKF), Mr. Toshihisa Nagura, member of the WKF Executive Committee, and Mr. Wolfgang Weigert, President of the German Karate Federation. The meeting was rather cordial, and Mr. Sasagawa had the opportunity to explain to the IOC President the intense activity that the JKF is developing in Japan with Tokyo 2020 and the Japanese Olympic Committee; also Mr. Weigert explained to Mr. Bach the big expectations that the WKF and the whole world of Karate have in the next World Championships of Bremen (Germany) next November, which are every 2 years the top event for the 188 National Federation members that the WKF has in the 5 Continents.

At this occasion, Mr. Espinós also seized the opportunity to thank Mr. Bach for the recognition and continued support from the IOC to the work that the WKF performs for karate development worldwide. Beyond this, he expressed to the IOC President the renewed enthusiasm and determination of the entire WKF family, who remain committed to their goal of placing karate among the sports in the Olympic Program in a near future.
