Damian Quintero “Honrado” Por el Tercer Premio Consecutivo de Grand Winner

El GRAN VENCEDOR 2017 en la categoría Masculino Kata es DAMIAN QUINTERO. El español ganó su tercer Gran Premio consecutivo, confirmando así su estatus como una de las estrellas más grandes del Karate.

“Me siento muy honrado por recibir este premio por tercera vez. El premio Grand Winner reconoce la consistencia, y en mi caso, viene como resultado del trabajo duro durante todo el año “, dijo el héroe Kata. “Me hice gran ganador en 2015, y conseguí ganar otra vez el año pasado, y esta temporada, por muy duro que haya sido, podría volver a conseguirlo”, agregó.

La estrella española del karate no es solamente un campeón dentro del tatami sino un favorito del ventilador fuera de la corte. Es uno de los más grandes exponentes de la bondad y deportividad que prevalece en el karate internacional; es fácil detectarlo interactuando con entusiastas del karate y ofreciendo apoyo a compañeros de equipo y adversarios por igual.

Además de ser uno de los principales representantes de los valores tradicionales de Karate en la competición de alto nivel, el atleta apodado “Kingtero” se caracteriza por su resistencia y espíritu trabajador. Su capacidad para superar situaciones difíciles ha sido claramente declarada este año.

El líder del ranking mundial alcanzó el primer evento de la temporada como subcampeón del Campeonato Mundial, pero a pesar de llegar al evento como favorito, el karate de 33 años sufrió una sorprendente eliminación temprana en el Karate 1-Premier League en París. La decepción en París no alejó a Quintero de sus goles, y el siete veces campeón de oro de la Karate 1-Premier League trabajó duro para volver y ganar la plata un mes después en Rotterdam.

Dos medallas de oro, en los Campeonatos de Europa y en casa en el Karate 1-Serie A en Toledo, junto con la medalla de plata en los Juegos Mundiales completar la temporada excepcional para el rey Kata.

“A pesar de que el año no tuvo un muy buen comienzo y final para mí (con las eliminaciones tempranas en París y Halle / Leipzig) ha sido un año muy bueno todo lo considerado”, declaró el 2014 campeón del mundo en el equipo Kata.

“En este primer año de Karate como deporte olímpico, mi objetivo principal era tener éxito en el Campeonato de Europa, y podría ganar oro allí. El segundo objetivo fue Los Juegos Mundiales y me dieron plata, así que estoy muy contento de cómo han ido las cosas. Terminar el año como líder del ranking mundial y ser Grand Winner son recompensas aún mayores para mí “, dijo Quintero, quien nació en Buenos Aires (Argentina) antes de trasladarse con su familia al sur de España.

El siete veces campeón de Europa se despidió de su trabajo como ingeniero aeronáutico para hacer realidad sus sueños olímpicos. “Siempre tendré tiempo de ser ingeniero”, como suele decirlo, mostrando así su compromiso de tener éxito en la búsqueda olímpica.

A medida que el mundo del karate se prepara para experimentar una emocionante carrera hacia Tokyo 2020, el tres veces ganador del Gran Premio Damian Quintero se prepara para seguir escribiendo nuevos capítulos brillantes en la historia de la competencia Kata en Karate internacional.

DAMIAN QUINTERO “HONOURED” FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE GRAND WINNER AWARD

The 2017 GRAND WINNER in the Male Kata category is DAMIAN QUINTERO. The Spanish Kata ace won his third consecutive Grand Winner award thus confirming his status as one of the biggest stars of Karate.

“I feel very honoured for receiving this award for the third time. The Grand Winner award recognises consistency, and in my case, it comes as a result of the hard work throughout the year,” said the Kata hero. “I became Grand Winner in 2015, and I managed to win it again last year, and this season, as hard as it has been, I could get it again”, he added.

The Spanish Karate Star is not only a champion inside the tatami but a fan favourite outside the court. He is one of the greatest exponents of the kindness and sportsmanship prevailing in international karate; it is easy to spot him interacting with Karate enthusiasts and offering support to teammates and adversaries alike.

“KINGTERO” RULES KATA COMPETITION

In addition to being one of the main representatives of the traditional Karate values in high-level competition, the athlete nicknamed “Kingtero” (get it?) is characterised by his resilience and hard-working spirit. His ability to overcome difficult situations has been clearly stated this year.

The World Ranking leader reached the first event of the season as World Championships runner-up, but despite getting to the event as frontrunner, the 33-year-old karate suffered a surprising early elimination in the Karate 1-Premier League in Paris. The disappointment in Paris did not push Quintero away from his goals, and the seven-time Karate 1-Premier League gold medallist worked hard to come back and win silver one month later in Rotterdam.

Two golds, in the European Championships and at home in the Karate 1-Series A in Toledo, together with the silver medal at The World Games complete the outstanding season for the Kata king.

“Even though the year did not have a very good start and end for me (with early eliminations in Paris and Halle/Leipzig) it has been a very good year all things considered”, stated the 2014 World champion in Team Kata.

“In this first year of Karate as an Olympic sport, my main goal was to succeed at the European Championships, and I could win gold there. The second objective was The World Games and I got silver, so I am very happy of how things have been going. To finish the year as World ranking leader and to be Grand Winner are even bigger rewards for me,” said Quintero who was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) before moving with his family to southern Spain.

The seven-time European champion took a leave of absence in his job as an aeronautic engineer to make his Olympic dreams come true. “I will always have time to be an engineer”, as he usually put it, thus showing his commitment to succeed in the Olympic quest.

As the Karate world gets ready to experience a thrilling race towards Tokyo 2020, the three-time Grand Winner Damian Quintero is set to continue writing new bright chapters in the history of the Kata competition in international Karate.
