PANAM SPORTS SACA EL SKATEBOARDING DE LOS JUEGOS PANAMERICANOS DE LIMA 2019

La decisión fue tomada por el Comité Ejecutivo de la Organización Deportiva Panamericana debido a que no existen las garantías necesarias para que el evento cuente con los mejores atletas del continente, lo cual va en contra de uno de los objetivos fundamentales de los Juegos.
Los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima 2019 ahora contarán con 38 deportes y 22 clasificatorios olímpicos.
CUIDAD DE MÉXICO (16 de mayo de 2019) — El Comité Ejecutivo de Panam Sports decidió por unanimidad retirar el deporte del skateboarding del programa de competencia de los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima 2019 en Perú.
La decisión se tomó luego de ciertos incumplimientos por parte de la Confederación Panamericana y de la Federación Internacional que afectará en gran medida el normal desarrollo de la competencia.
En una carta dirigida a ambas organizaciones, el Comité Ejecutivo de Panam Sports esgrimió las siguientes razones para excluir definitivamente el Skateboarding del programa de Lima 2019:
“Aunque teníamos el compromiso de la World Skate de que los Juegos Panamericanos serían un evento clasificatorio a los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020, esto nunca se concretó y finalmente recibimos la confirmación de que no sería uno de los eventos que dieran puntos para la clasificación los Juegos Olímpicos.
El proceso de clasificación convocado por la Confederación Panamericana excluyó a varios de los mejores países en esta disciplina, dejando fuera a los mejores atletas del continente.
La reciente programación de un evento clasificatorio a los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio en la modalidad de Street de Skateboarding en la ciudad de Los Ángeles, en exactamente las mismas fechas en las que se disputarían los eventos de Skateboarding en los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima 2019, lo entendemos como una falta de respeto a los Juegos Panamericanos, a los atletas que iban a participar en dichos Juegos y fundamentalmente al Comité Organizador de Lima 2019”.
El último evento en cuestión, es el World Skate SLS Tour 2019 Los Angeles, que se ha programado para desarrollarse entre el 23 y el 28 de julio en California. La competencia de Skateboarding en Lima 2019 estaba programada del 27 al 28 de julio.
La competencia en Los Ángeles se decidió cuando restaban menos de tres meses para el inicio de los Juegos Panamericanos, lo que afecta ostensiblemente el normal desarrollo de la competencia continental en la capital peruana.
Panam Sports lamenta profundamente la decisión de excluir el skateboarding de Lima 2019, ya que de seguro afectará a varios atletas que han estado trabajando arduamente para representar a su país en Lima, y también a los Comités Olímpicos Nacionales que han comprometido recursos para ayudar a esos deportistas a llegar al evento multideportivo más importante de América, pero no están dadas las condiciones y no existen las garantías por parte de las organizaciones que comandan este deporte en el continente y en el mundo para la realización de un evento con los estándares que se requieren para unos Juegos Panamericanos.
Panam Sports ya ha comunicado esta decisión a la Federación Internacional, a la Confederación Panamericana y a los 41 Comités Olímpicos Nacionales dentro del Movimiento Olímpico de las Américas.
Tras la eliminación del Skateboarding del programa de competencia, los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima 2019 ahora contarán con 38 deportes, 22 de los cuales serán clasificatorios olímpicos.
Los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima 2019 comienzan el 26 de julio y concluyen el 11 de agosto.

PANAM SPORTS REMOVES SKATEBOARDING FROM LIMA 2019 PAN AMERICAN GAMES

The decision was made by the Executive Committee of the Pan American Sports Organization due to the lack of guarantees necessary to ensure the tournament will feature the top athletes of the continent, which is one of the fundamental objectives of the Games.

The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will now feature 38 sports and 22 Olympic qualifiers.

The Executive Committee of Panam Sports has unanimously decided to withdraw Skateboarding from the competition program of the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

The decision was made after certain fulfillments by the Pan American Confederation and the International Federation were not met, greatly affecting the normal development of the competition.

In a letter addressed to both organizations, the Executive Committee of Panam Sports provided the following reasons to definitively exclude Skateboarding from the Lima 2019 Games:

“Although we had the commitment of World Skate that the Pan American Games would be a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, this was never concrete and we finally received confirmation that it would not be one of the events that offered points towards qualification to the Olympic Games.

The classification process determined by the Pan American Confederation excluded several of the best countries in this discipline, leaving out many of the best athletes of the continent.

The recent scheduling of a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for the discipline of Street Skateboarding in the city of Los Angeles, on exactly the same dates as the Skateboarding events at the Pan American Games of Lima 2019, is something we understand as a lack of respect to the Pan American Games, to the athletes that were going to participate in these Games and fundamentally, to the Organizing Committee of Lima 2019.”

The event in question is the World Skate SLS Tour 2019 Los Angeles, which has been scheduled to take place July 23 to 28 in California. The competition of Skateboarding in Lima 2019 was scheduled from July 27 to 28.

The dates for the competition in Los Angeles were decided when there were less than three months remaining until the start of the Pan American Games, which ostensibly affects the normal development of continental competition in the Peruvian capital.

Panam Sports deeply regrets the decision to exclude Skateboarding from Lima 2019, as it will surely affect several athletes who have been working hard to represent their country in Lima, and also to the National Olympic Committees that have committed resources to help those athletes reach the most important multisport event in the Americas. However, the conditions were not met and there are no guarantees on the part of the organizations that govern the sport in the continent and in the world for the realization of an event with the standards that are required for the Pan American Games.

Panam Sports has already communicated this decision to the International Federation, the Pan American Confederation and the 41 National Olympic Committees within Americas Olympic Movement.

Following the elimination of Skateboarding from the competition program, the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will now have 38 sports, 22 of which will be Olympic qualifiers.

The Lima 2019 Pan American Games begin July 26 and conclude August 11.
