Se aprobaron los pesos olímpicos, ya que de los cinco habituales se quedan en tres, tanto en hombres como en mujeres, unificándose los dos más bajos y los do más altos. En total, serán diez competidores por categoría, 60 en kumite y 20 en katas, que saldrán de los Mundiales, los continentales y los ránking, con un preolímpico final.
