EMPATE SIN PRECEDENTES EN LA FINAL FEMENINA DE KATA DE KARATE1 TOKYO 2019

La Karate 1-Premier League Tokyo 2019 fue un evento histórico de principio a fin. El torneo se celebró en el pabellón deportivo Nippon Budokan, el mismo lugar donde se realizará el debut olímpico de Karate el próximo año; También fue el último evento internacional en Japón antes del comienzo de la competencia olímpica. Además de una acción inolvidable en el tatami, el evento también dejó un momento para los anales del deporte: un empate en la final de la competencia de Kata.

Por primera vez desde la introducción del sistema actualizado de evaluación de Kata, se produjo un empate en el combate final de un evento de Kata. Kiyou Shimizu de Japón y Sandra Sánchez de España se encontraron en la pelea decisiva de la categoría Kata Femenina. Los dos principales favoritos de la categoría eligieron el mismo Kata para la final, “Chantanyara Kushanku”. Demostrando la emocionante rivalidad entre los dos competidores, ambos karatekas obtuvieron el mismo puntaje: 27.68

Fue la primera vez que se produjo un empate en la pelea final de un evento internacional. Las Reglas de Competencia de WKF se aplicaron para resolver el empate. Como se indica en el punto 5.4 de las Reglas de competencia de Kata y Kumite de WKF, “En el caso de que los competidores obtengan el mismo número de puntos, el sorteo debe determinarse realizando un kata adicional para determinar qué resultado del Competidor tiene prioridad sobre el otro. “

Luego se realizó un nuevo kata, siguiendo las reglas. Sandra Sánchez ejecutó “Suparinpei” y Kiyou Shimizu realizó “Oyadomari No Passai”. El karateka español obtuvo un puntaje de 27.48 mientras que el as japonés recibió 27.74 puntos. El título pasó a manos de Shimizu y se escribió un nuevo capítulo en la historia del deporte.

“Fue la primera vez desde el Campeonato Mundial en Madrid que hicimos el mismo kata. Esta vez, sin embargo, el resultado fue diferente. Hoy hicimos dos katas, fue como hacer dos finales. Fue una experiencia fantástica antes de los Juegos Olímpicos porque tuvimos la oportunidad de ponernos a prueba y demostrarnos a nosotros mismos en el escenario más grande “, dijo Kiyou Shimizu, quien perdió la corona mundial ante Sánchez en Madrid, pero obtuvo el oro en casa en el Karate 1-Premier Liga en Tokio.

“Lo importante es que podamos demostrar nuestro mejor nivel. Como japonés, fue un honor competir en Nippon Budokan, que es la “meca” de las artes marciales y donde se celebrarán los Juegos Olímpicos el próximo año. Me gustaría seguir dando lo mejor de mí y demostrando mi fuerza técnica y física “, agregó la estrella japonesa.

UNPRECEDENTED TIE IN FEMALE KATA FINAL OF #KARATE1TOKYO

The 2019 Karate 1-Premier League Tokyo was a historic event through and through. The tournament was held at Nippon Budokan sports hall, the same venue where Karate’s Olympic debut will be held next year; it was also the last international event in Japan before the start of the Olympic competition. In addition to some unforgettable action on the tatami, the event also left one moment for the annals of the sport: a tie in the final of Kata competition. 

For the first time since the introduction of the updated Kata evaluation system, a tie occurred in the final bout of a Kata event. Japan’s Kiyou Shimizu and Spain’s Sandra Sanchez met at the title-deciding bout of the Female Kata category.  The two top favourites of the category chose the same Kata for the final, “Chantanyara Kushanku”. Demonstrating the thrilling rivalry between the two competitors, both karatekas got the same score: 27.68

It was the first time that a tie occurred in the final bout of an international event. The WKF Competition Rules were then applied to resolve the tie. As it is stated in point 5.4 of the WKF Kata and Kumite Competition Rules, “In the event that competitors obtain the same number of points, the draw should be determined by performing an additional kata to determine which Competitor’s result take precedence over the other.”

A new kata was then performed, following the rules. Sandra Sanchez executed “Suparinpei” and Kiyou Shimizu performed “Oyadomari No Passai”. The Spanish karateka got a score of 27.48 while the Japanese ace received 27.74 points. The title went to Shimizu’s hands, and a new chapter in the history of the sport was written. 

“It was the first time since the World Championships in Madrid that we did the same kata. This time however the result was different. Today we did two katas, it was like doing two finals. It was a fantastic experience ahead of the Olympic Games because we had the chance to test and to prove ourselves at the biggest stage,” said Kiyou Shimizu who lost the World crown to Sanchez in Madrid but got gold at home at the Karate 1-Premier League in Tokyo. 

“The important thing is that we could demonstrate our best level. As Japanese, it was an honour to compete in Nippon Budokan, which is the ‘mecca’ of martial arts and where the Olympic Games will be held next year. I would like to continue giving my best and demonstrating my technical and physical strength,” added the Japanese star.
